A bustling scene unfolds along the canal in Middelburg, where a large crowd has gathered to witness a grand departure. The warship De Zeehondt dominates the center, being towed out of the harbour towards the open sea by four strong draught horses. The occasion is clearly important, marked by the yacht of Stadholder Maurice firing a gun salute, signaling the departure of a dignitary. Amidst the many onlookers and vessels, an African child can be spotted on the central ship, adding a unique detail to the composition. Painted by Adriaen Pietersz van de Venne in 1615
