How to order your made to measure wallpaper (and canvas, and prints)

Ordering made to measure wallpaper on GetinArt takes five steps and about ten minutes. The configurator prices your wall in real time, VAT excluded, while you type the measurements; the preview shows the design at your size before you pay; our prepress department checks every file before it goes into production. The same flow covers canvas and fine art prints, with fewer measurements to take. Below is each step in detail, starting with the part that matters most: measuring your wall properly.

The 5 steps

1

Measure your wall

Take the width and the height in centimetres, at least three readings each, and use the largest value. Add 5 cm per side: walls are never perfectly square and the margin gets trimmed while hanging. Doors, windows, corners, sloped ceilings and staircases have their own cases in the section below.

2

Choose a design or upload your image

Browse the 4200+ designs in the catalogue by theme, style, room or colour. Printing your own image is coming soon: the file guidelines already tell you what your file will need, so you can get it ready.

3

Choose material and finish

Enter your measurements and pick from the Classic, Premium and Natural ranges, from PVC-free Smooth 175 g to fabric, pearlescent and eco versions. The price updates as you type, VAT excluded. The material guide helps you choose by room and by use.

4

Check the preview

The configurator shows the exact crop of the design at your measurements. You can move the framing and adjust the scale until it sits the way you want. What you approve is what we print.

5

Pay and receive

We accept cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and bank transfer in advance. You can order as a guest, and create an account during checkout if you want one. The electronic invoice is issued when the order is fulfilled. Shipping in 6–8 working days with a tracked courier, free above €250 excluding VAT: the details are on the shipping page.

How to measure your wall

Measurements are the one thing we cannot check for you: we print exactly what you order. Take your time here, and if anything is unclear ask us before you buy.

Simple wall

Simple wallwidthheight

Width from corner to corner, height from floor to ceiling (skirting boards and cornices excluded, unless you want to cover them). Three readings per side, the largest one wins, plus 5 cm of margin per side.

Wall with a door or a window

Wall with a door or a windowmeasure the whole wall

Measure the whole wall as if the opening were not there: panels are printed complete and the excess is cut while hanging. That way the design stays continuous above and beside the opening.

Several walls or a corner

Several walls or a cornerwall 1wall 2

Each wall is a separate order with its own measurements. If the design has to continue around the corner, say so in the notes and add 5 cm on the side that turns.

Sloped ceiling or staircase

Sloped ceiling or staircaseorder the rectangle

Take the maximum width and the maximum height and order the rectangle that contains them: you will cut the shape while hanging. For staircases measure the height from the lowest step to the highest point of the ceiling.

Not sure about your measurements?

Send a photo of the wall with the measurements to support@getinart.com before you order: we answer within 24 working hours.

The most common measuring mistakes

Four situations we see again and again, all of them easy to avoid.

If the numbers still do not convince you, send them over with a photo of the wall: ten minutes of looking at it together saves a reprint.

How many panels do I need and how are they cut

You do not have to work out rolls or panel counts. You order the square metres of your wall and you receive the panels already cut and numbered in hanging order, with a safety margin on each side so you can trim precisely once they are up. The price you see in the configurator is the price of the exact surface you entered, margin included: there are no whole rolls to buy just to cover the last twenty centimetres. Hanging instructions are in our guide on how to hang wallpaper.

Ordering a canvas or a fine art print

For custom canvas prints you choose the format from the configurator, the frame type and the edge finish; they arrive ready to hang. For fine art prints you choose between photographic paper, aluminium, aluminium with acrylic glass and canvas. Here your own file needs 300 DPI at print size, against the 150 DPI asked for wallpaper and canvas. Printing your own image on any of these is coming soon: see custom printing for how it will work.

Payments, invoices and discount codes

We accept cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and bank transfer in advance. All prices on the site are shown excluding VAT: VAT is added at checkout according to the delivery country and your tax status. The electronic invoice is issued when the order is fulfilled; if you have a VAT number, enter your recipient code or certified email address at checkout. Discount codes go in the dedicated field before payment, one per order. GetinArt Pro customers have their 20% discount applied automatically, and it does not stack with other codes.

What happens after you order

As soon as you confirm, the order follows a fixed sequence.

  1. Confirmation and payment. You receive a confirmation email with the summary of measurements, material and price. With a bank transfer in advance, production starts once the payment has cleared.
  2. Prepress check. Every file goes through prepress before production: resolution at print size, colour profile, margins. Catalogue designs are already prepared one by one for the maximum printable size. Nothing goes on the printer without this step.
  3. Production. Printing, drying, panel cutting and quality inspection in our workshop in Guidonia Montecelio, just outside Rome.
  4. Shipping. 6–8 working days with a tracked courier, tracking code by email and in your account. Times, packaging, damages and returns are covered on the shipping page.

You can follow the order from the "My orders" section of your account. If you ordered as a guest, the link to follow it is in your confirmation email.

Frequently asked questions

Should I add extra to my measurements?
Yes, 5 cm per side. Walls are never square and the margin gets trimmed while hanging.
How much wallpaper do I need?
You do not order rolls: you order the square metres of your wall. Enter width and height and the configurator prices the exact surface, margin included.
How do I choose the right material?
The material guide describes every option by room and by use, with finish, weight and price per square metre. A kitchen and a bedroom do not ask for the same surface, and that is the choice that matters most.
Can I change my order after paying?
Until production starts, yes: write to customer service straight away. Once it is on the printer no, because the product is already made to your measurements.
Can I order without an account?
Yes. Checkout works as a guest, and you can create an account during checkout if you want to keep your orders and addresses.
How do I get my invoice?
Electronically, when the order is fulfilled, through the Italian SDI system and in your account.
