The process: from file to wall, all under one roof
GetinArt does not buy its printing from anyone: it prints. Every wallpaper, canvas and fine art print you order is checked, printed, cut and packed in our own workshop in Guidonia Montecelio, just outside Rome, by people you can call on the phone. Below are the five stages, told plainly. They are the ones that decide whether what ends up on your wall is what you saw in the preview.
The five stages
They always run in this order, for a catalogue work and for an image of your own alike.
Prepress check
Every file goes through the same prepress flow before production, whether it comes from the catalogue or from you: resolution at print size, colour profile, margins and file integrity are checked automatically, then a person looks at the result. When uploading your own image goes live, that check will be free. The museum works in the catalogue have already been prepared one by one: scan cleaning, colour balancing, and a check of how many pixels are available for the largest printable size.
Large format digital printing
We print with pigment UV inks, the same ones that carry the permanence stated on our fine art range. Colour management uses a calibrated profile for each material, because a smooth paper and a textile absorb light differently and the same image needs two different treatments. That is why the preview in the configurator is worth trusting, and why two orders of the same work placed months apart look like each other.
Materials and inks
The inks are GREENGUARD Gold certified for low emissions, and the textile materials carry OEKO-TEX Standard 100. Those two certificates are downloadable from your account, and they are the only environmental claims we make: we do not write "eco friendly" where we have no document to show. Cutting, finishing and quality inspection
Wallpaper is divided into panels, numbered in hanging order and cut with a safety margin per side. Canvases are stretched by hand over their frame; aluminium and acrylic glass prints are trimmed and their edges finished. Before packing, every piece is looked at by a person: continuity of the image across panels, no banding, a match with the preview you approved. It is the step a machine on its own does not do.
Packing and shipping
Rigid tubes with end caps for wallpaper, protective corners and film for canvases, double wall cardboard crates with spacers for rigid panels. Each panel is labelled so that on arrival it is immediately clear how it goes on the wall. Dispatch takes 6–8 working days with a tracked courier, free above €250. The detail is on the shipping page.
What we can actually certify
Two certificates, both documented, both downloadable from your account once you have ordered. We keep the list short on purpose: an environmental claim without a document behind it is worth nothing to you and nothing to us.
Working with GetinArt Pro means the technical sheets and the certificates come with the quote, which is what a specification document usually asks for.
What fine art printing really means
Fine art printing means pigment inks rather than dyes, on materials chosen to last, at 300 DPI. The distinction matters because it is the one that shows up years later. Pigments are solid particles that sit on the surface and hold their colour for decades; dyes are dissolved and start shifting within a few years next to a window. That is the whole difference between one of our art prints and a bookshop poster printed in offset on coated paper.
The same logic drives the resolution we ask for. Wallpaper is looked at from two metres away, so 150 DPI at print size is plenty. A fine art print is looked at from thirty centimetres, so it needs 300. What that means for your own file is set out in the file guidelines.
Made to order, nothing unsold
There is no warehouse. Every piece is produced after the order, which has two consequences worth stating. The first is that the measurements are yours, not a standard decided in advance by somebody else. The second is that nothing is left over to dispose of: we do not print a run of a design hoping it sells. It is also the honest reason why dispatch takes 6–8 working days and not twenty four hours. A canvas print that does not exist yet cannot be picked off a shelf.
