A line of tall lampposts on the left immediately draws the eye, guiding it along a green railing that borders a path. Further right, figures stand on an observation platform, enjoying the panoramic views from what was once the Moulin de Blute-Fin windmill, now a Montmartre tourist spot. Vincent van Gogh painted this oil on canvas in early 1887, during his time in Paris. The work captures the Butte Montmartre, a district still retaining hints of its quickly receding rural past amidst its urban development. Its quiet, contemplative mood would complement a living room or a reading nook.
