In the vibrant milieu of the Dutch Golden Age, just two years after the devastating tulip bulb market crash of 1637, Hans Bollongier created this sumptuous Floral Still Life in 1639. On panel, with oil paint, he masterfully arranged an opulent bouquet featuring tulips, anemones, roses, and carnations - flowers that do not naturally bloom at the same time - into a harmonious composition. Hidden among the vibrant petals, a lizard and a snail add further detail. This seemingly festive display, rich with life and color, subtly alludes to the transience of earthly pleasures and the fleeting nature of wealth
