During the Dutch Golden Age, marine painting was a highly specialized and valued art form, depicting the nation's naval prowess and its critical role in global trade and conflict. Painted by Willem van de Velde in 1668, this unique "penschildering" - a pen painting executed in ink on canvas - captures a pivotal moment from the Four Days' Battle in June 1666, a defining engagement of the Second Anglo-Dutch War. The canvas teems with numerous warships, including the Royal Charles and De Zeven Provinciën
