During the 18th century, in the vibrant milieu of Constantinople, the French painter Jean Baptiste Vanmour dedicated his oil on canvas works to capturing the diverse customs of the Ottoman Empire. This painting, created between 1720 and 1737, offers a detailed glimpse into an Armenian wedding procession making its way to the church in Turkey. The lively scene features musicians leading the way, followed by the groom, escorted by a young man with a sabre. Behind them, the groom's father, the priest, and the women of the party proceed, notably the bride dressed in striking red. Candle bearers walk ahead of the couple
