In this vivid oil on canvas, crafted by Nicolas Poussin around 1625-27, a playful Cupid draws the goat-legged god Pan towards Venus, the goddess of love, who reclines gracefully on the right. Set within a dense, idyllic woodland, the scene cleverly illustrates the Latin phrase "amor vincit omnia" - love conquers all - with Pan's name itself meaning "all" in Greek. Poussin, a prominent Baroque artist, frequently depicted complex historical and mythological themes, often with witty allusions to classical texts. He turned to such popular mythological scenes, featuring nymphs and satyrs, after arriving in Rome and facing financial instability. This painting
