Two fishermen in a wooden boat, one in blue and one in red, pause from their task of casting nets to look intently at Jesus, who stands on a rocky shore to the left. Christ, depicted with a halo and flowing robes, extends his hand in a gesture of invitation. This small panel, painted by Duccio di Buoninsegna in 1308, features a striking gold leaf background that adds a divine glow to the scene. It was originally part of the Maestà, a monumental two-sided altarpiece that held a central place on the main altar of Siena's cathedral. The intricate detail and serene narrative make this piece a contemplative addition to a quiet reading nook or a traditional dining room.
