Rembrandt's grisaille painting is a study in light and shadow, rendered in a palette of warm browns and ochres. The illumination dramatically highlights Delilah's figure and the sleeping Samson in her lap, creating a stark contrast with the darker background. Delilah's face and hand, signalling silence to the lurking Philistine, catch the light, emphasizing her deceptive intent. Recently reattributed to Rembrandt and dating from around 1626-1627, this oil on panel work depicts the biblical narrative of Samson and Delilah. It captures the moment just before Delilah betrays Samson, whose superhuman strength is linked to his long hair. The grisaille technique, with its monochromatic tones
