The eye is drawn to two figures making their way through a stark, snow-covered landscape. A person in a distinctive conical hat sits astride a horse, which lowers its head as it moves through the deep drifts. Alongside them, another individual, heavily cloaked against the cold, carries a package. The sky above is a rich blue, filled with a gentle snowfall, while a dramatically twisted pine tree, laden with white, anchors the upper part of the image. A small, snow-dusted dwelling is visible in the distance. This woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai, from the Edo period
