This painting captures a lively gathering of women within a lavishly adorned Turkish interior, focusing on a new mother reclining on a grand bed. To the left, a slave is busy preparing sorbet, while coffee is brewed on a brazier in the middle of the room. Guests are first offered refreshments, then rosewater from a sprinkler to cleanse their hands, and perfume from a vaporizer, a customary gesture of hospitality. The decorative cloths hanging on the wall are traditional gifts from the visitors. Painted in oil on canvas by Jean Baptiste Vanmour in the early 18th century, this piece offers a fascinating glimpse into Ottoman social customs
