From the Dutch Golden Age, this painting by Ary de Vois, created between 1660 and 1680, presents a pivotal biblical narrative. It depicts Jacob's dream as he sleeps on a stone, seeing a ladder extending to heaven with angels ascending and descending. De Vois rendered Jacob's almost naked form with a porcelain-like smoothness, a characteristic of his work. The once-green foliage has since turned blue due to the fading of yellow pigments over centuries. This serene and reflective scene, featuring Jacob's faithful dog, would bring a contemplative atmosphere to a quiet reading nook or a traditionally styled living room.
