Bathed in a dramatic shaft of light from the upper right, the figures of Venus and Aeneas glow against a darker backdrop. The goddess, with her luminous skin and vivid green and white drapery, is seated majestically, presenting a new suit of armour to the kneeling hero. A Cupid hands him a helmet, while other pieces lie on the ground, and winged putti tumble through the sky, one carrying a laurel wreath. To the left, four smiths toil in the shadows of Vulcan's forge, their forms subtly illuminated by the fiery glow of their work. This monumental oil on canvas, painted by Ferdinand Bol between 1660 and 1663
