Painted in 1936, this work by Wassily Kandinsky exemplifies his late Parisian period, where the artist delved into a unique form of biomorphic abstraction. "Complex-Simple" presents a vibrant cosmos of organic and geometric elements set against a deep black void. Large, irregular cream-colored forms dominate the composition, adorned with intricate patterns, small dots, and even Roman numerals, while elongated, patterned segments in earthy tones weave through the space. These shapes, reminiscent of microscopic life or celestial bodies, are connected by delicate lines and accompanied by tiny, almost hieroglyphic figures. This painting offers a window into a hidden, complex order
