During the Dutch Golden Age, around 1630-1635, Moyses van Wtenbrouck was known for his landscapes enriched with mythological or biblical themes, a genre highly valued by educated patrons. This oil on panel depicts a nymph, caught by surprise while bathing at the edge of a forest characterized by strikingly shaped trees, as a satyr suddenly leaps out at her. Further in the background, a second satyr plays a flute, completing this scene of pastoral intrigue. Its blend of classical narrative and natural beauty makes it an ideal piece for a study or a finely appointed living space.
